This month we are celebrating national impaired driving prevention. Especially during the holidays, many people seem to drive when they have been intoxicated. We are trying to prevent this so others can stop getting hurt. The most celebrated holidays in December are Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and these are the most dangerous. In 2018 drunk driving crashes claimed 108 lives in those two days alone. This is why the Mothers against drunk driving picked December. This month has been the national impaired driving prevention for 39 consecutive years.
In the month of December 2018 over 839 people died in alcohol-related crashes. Drunk driving deaths are usually only around a third of all traffic fatalities; it had increased to nearly 50 percent on December 24 and December 31. It is devastating for the families that lose one of their loved ones over something that could have been prevented. Young adults are at the greatest risk for driving impaired. In the average year, 30 million Americans drive drunk, and 10 million Americans drive impaired by drugs. These are all deaths that we can prevent if we act more responsibly. There's are all caused by someone's bad choice to drive instead of asking someone to pick them up or taking an uber. These crashes could have all been prevented. When it comes to driving while being intoxicated you should never do it. If you know you are going to be drinking you should have a plan for someone to pick you up. Especially during the holidays, be responsible and protect others from situations that can definitely be prevented. Not only in this month should we prevent these types of accidents and not drive intoxicated, we have to remember this every day. link https://www.madd.org/december-is-national-impaired-driving-prevention-month
